When Canoes Fly

Mary did all sorts of Thanksgiving crafts at preschool today.  She showed us a turkey that she made from a handprint with "Gobble gobble" written across the top.

But just a minute ago, she came to me with a cutout of an indian canoe she had colored.

"Nice Mary.  Who rides in a canoe?"

"You don't ride in a canoe" she says, "you fly in it."

"Who flies in a canoe?" I asked.  "Just some kids."

As I tried to tell her that canoes are a kind of boat, she runs to the book cabinet and fishes out a Sesame Street seek-and-find book.

"What is that for?"

"To show you that canoes fly."

I stand corrected.
